Anyone recognise this description?

Post by The VFC »

Hi all - I was contacted by someone trying to track down the following:

"about 50 years ago when I was a kid, I had snelled hooks that had red
thread wrapped around the shank. I think the name of them began with a
P, like an Indian name or something. Any clues?"

Ring any bells with anyone - I've asked if they were a UK manufactured hook or from abroad: I'm assuming from the use of the term "snelled" they may be US?
Tks
Jim

I thought I had some of those somewhere Jim but it turned out to be these Marshes Redshank hooks.

My first guess, as it was an Indian-sounding name, would be 'Paw paw' but another possibility is Pfleuger?

I still think it was the 'Huron' hooks !!! Can't get a name more 'indian' than that ... the tribe supporting the French against the British in "The Last of the Mohicans."
