If you need to carry more 'pins than you've "proper" cases for, thick socks are useful - slide the reel in, twist once, return the reel through the upper half of the sock and fasten with a peg or whatever comes to hand.

In one of those purpose made block leather cases. The other reel will travel in a pouch in a wooden box when I can finish the box. Again to continue the theme of looking after tackle I try to minimise the risks when transporting gear.

Bit of a mixed bag.
My pins have all got pouches of varying types, but by fixed spools haven't.
One is wrapped in a scarf, the other in bubble wrap at present.

They also do a hard case it you want one

I've found the soft one fine for what I need.

I also have one of these, which I use for a pin or my Altex

I really like those block leather cases. Any other suppliers anyone?

Hardly 'traditional,' I know ... but safe as houses !!!

I found a 'Makita' aluminium tool case on a certain auction site ... and with a new foam insert it happily carries all I could need for all conditions ... and all for under £15.

I have two of these made by Robbi. They're leather, fur lined and perfect for my rapidex and trudex pins.

Mine tend to live on the rods unprotected but totally aired between trips. If I feel I need to carry a different one with different line I use some neoprene ones that came with some of my more modern 'pins. Not very traditional but they protect and don't see the light of day.

Ah, but, what about that all important patina we all seem to like on our pins? I presume that this is why the old manufactured reels command such good prices, as very many were unprotected and aged and aired naturally.

I must admit I treat my tackle as tools and prefer to see a reel that has obviously had a life in use rather than a life sat on a shelf.
