Had a rummage in my tackle box the other night and the hooks I was referring to are Kamasan B640 - forged, round-bend, spade-end. Seems they are still available on t'net at least, so I guess I'd better stock up. An excellent pattern in sizes 12-18 for occasions where you want the strength of a forged hook and the finesse of a spade-end.

It really depends upon the species I'm targeting and the bait I'm using .
For roach , dace and grayling when trotting with maggots and casters and corn I'll use Tubertini series 808 which is a bronze hook .
For the same species but when using bread I'll use Tubertini series 801 which is a silver hook .
For trout , seatrout and larger species I'll use Tubertini series 175 .

I also have a stock , which I acquired many moons ago , of Maruta Kinryu H Line and Owner hooks of various sizes . These are used for barbel , carp etc. All the aforementioned hooks regardless of size / wire gauge are of the spade end pattern which I much prefer.

Drennan Super Specialist – general barbel/chub/tench
Drennan Super Spade for trotting for barbel and large chub
Drennan carp feeder – love these for float fishing for tench
Kamasan Animal
For Roach/Rudd - size 18 and smaller
Drennan team England super carbon maggot hooks
Kamasan B511
Preston pr25
Drennan carbon caster Blue
Mustad 90340
Quite agree here, however when targeting roach a fish that is very sensitive and has very delicate soft mouths id definitely go for hooks that are fine wire patterns, kammasan animal hooks etc are ok being very strong but are strong because the gauge is thicker :fingertap:

Two of my favourite roach pattern hooks In all sizes are these :Thumb:

Not strictly tackle and definitely not traditional, but my Nash Indulgence chair is now a 'must have' when I go a'fishing. The days pf perching my bum on a wicker basket are now well past. Without being comfortable I find I don't fish nearly as well, particularly as my sessions tend to be at least 5 hours long, without too much swim jumping.

When I do go stalking carp the chair stays in the car and, by the end of the day, my knees are so shot that I don't go fishing the next day!

Good to see you're a Kamasan man Stuart......I use B980 in various sizes for most of my fishing.....I love them and have used these hooks for years without any problems at all. They're relatively cheap compared with more modern designs and makes, although most of my local tackle shops have stopped stocking them and thus I usually have to order them off the net.

I definitely rate kamasan hooks and have also used em for a number of years,

incidentally I also use most drennan patterns and both the kamasan and drennan range both come from the same factory and are basically all the same hooks

The two Maidstone shops should have a good variety as there both match orientated shops also I should think Medway tackle in Tonbridge should have em aswell :Thumb:

Medway Tackle have stopped stocking B980s Stu and of course it's a 60 mile round trip. I only very rarely venture into Maidstone......its not the greatest Landrover experience! Ha! You're more likely to find me in Tenterden, LR friendly and much nicer people.....

For years I used the b520 for maggot fishing then I followed the match lads and used b560
Both the above are very good hooks . But the best hook I now use is the b532 red these give a better hold and are very strong for the gauge.
Its a longer shank hook but don't let that put you off they are seriously good.
