When I fished when I was younger it was often black which I have recently been thinking of starting to use again. Most of the time now I use orange but I have been quite liking yellow sometimes which I was never keen on as a youngster.
Do your eyes change in regard to seeing colours with age ?

Red and black. If I only have red tipped floats with me a black feather (which must be oiled) stuck under the top float rubber work well and can be used after dark when it can be visible, black on black work for a long time after it has got dark.

Fluro orange to me is the best, although I have a few fluro yellow for evenings and dull days and have often added some black silicone tube over the tip when the water has a lot of reflection

It's become apparent to me that we see colours differently...that is to say our brains interpret the incoming signals differently, it seems. For mew...like the majority, I like fluoro orange best...a matt one like Revell, rather than a gloss one like Humbrol. But I have a pal who likes other colours best, particularly pink...he just sees it better and sees it move faster than he does with other colours.

I do find that if it is a bit dark then fluoro yellow is better for me, so usually make floats in both colours and just occasionally one float in both colours for if the conditions are changeable.

For use, Black seems to be the colour I turn to most, but a nice bright red pleases my eye.

I use various colours, but if I had to choose only one, it would be black.

I make my own floats and always feel that a red tip shows them off very well.

For fishing however I am of a mind that a black tip is best for detection of bites in the greatest variety of conditions.
The coiled line travels from the reel, it brings up at last, the hook goes home, and then begins the test of skill. "BB"

I pick out a scarlet tip by preference but will change colour as conditions change.

Interesting. It seems like red or Orange is pretty popular.

I will try the black tape trick though and see if it is easier to see.
There are 2 types of people in this world.... those that "get" fishing .... and those that don't
