Drennan did/do two sorts of Olivettes, sliding and fixed by rubbers at each end.

I still think lead free styls are the way to go - they have a longer/larger area attached to the line.

Oh I forgot to mention that swans are highly unlikely to swallow a 2 or 3oz lead lead! They do need grit to aid the digestion of their food, hence the requirement/compromise for lead free shot.

I have some olivettes with a swivel at both ends. I put the float on, tie on the line and then add a hook length on the bottom swivel. I trim the float with additional shot on the main line plus a no 8 on the hook length. If I snag, I just loose the hook length. I use this arrangement fishing in 8-20ft river swims. It's a really good set up with just one problem - they stopped making the olivettes.
