Cleaning waxed cotton jackets (if possible)
Whilst in the midst of a major declutter I was emptying a cupboard full of tat when I found my old waxed cotton jacket... it smelt rather musty and was caked in dust... is there any way of restoring it to a useable state, as I figure washing it is not feasible due to its coating...???
Just one more cast love, and I'll be on me way home

Give it a brush with cold water. Then let dry and use an old hot iron on it. Takes away most of the smell. Finally wear it again and it will adopt

Harry,
I have given a couple of mine a cool wash in the machine and they came out great, a bit patchy colour wise but that could be sorted with a tin of wax. It certainly got rid of that "dead tramp" smell.
Wal.

I pressure wash the inside, the lining, then hang it in the sun to dry. Needs a hot summer's day. Then apply wax using a hairdryer to melt the wax and spread it with a small sponge. 45 years old, looks like new :-)

Popping over to Harlow for some Nikwax reproofing wax and it's going into the washing MC.... tried brushing with cold water and it still looked awful... streaky and patchy... we'll see what a cool wash will do

I wouldn't add any soap or detergents.
