First grayling
Pleased to report it as one of a number of firsts this morning :thumb:
First session on the Itchen navigation; first use of a 1937 Hardy rod; first use of a 1970s float that I've owned from new; first grayling.
1lb 4oz.
Have to say that on light tackle it fought like a ...............bream :chuckle:
The navigation is very slow where I fished & the fish spent @ a minute trying to bury itself in the river bed. It then insisted on at least 10 mins of TLC before being fit enough to be released despite a short fight & a very easy hook position [although it fought harder in the net than out!]
I'm very chuffed & it was a lovely looking fish :thumb:

Re: First grayling
Very well done sir. I will be hoping for my first grayling this season as well as my first barbel :thumb:
Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

Congratulations Craig!
I usually get one or two a season on the fly whilst trout fishing. I have to agree, I am always amazed at the strength of these fish once in the hand, gorgeous creatures and always very welcome...

Great result Craig :thumb:
but first use of a float you've owned for around 40 years??
There is no peace on earth like the peace of fishing in the early mornings

A great result, I expect the float enjoyed its first outing too.

Julian,
I have to confess that I've several such impulse purchases that have waited decades to be used.
The longer I have them, the more reluctant I get to "risk" them!!
I'll start a thread re that :chuckle:

Well done craig.....
With these day's getting shorter and mornings and evenings getting chillier I think it'll be grayling season before we know it!!

Julian,
Forgot to add that I did have a near quarter century gap in my fishing career, only taking it back up 5 years ago!
