Goodbye to Betchworth bridge on the river Mole

Post by Troydog » Tue Mar 12, 2019 10:10 pm

Hi Nobby - I've been up in the roof to find some old photos. This is how we found Johns car after realising how quickly the Mole was rising. It wouldn't start.

John raced off towards Leigh to find a friendly farmer. I'm waiting for the tractor so I can tie a rope to the car.

I couldn't get a rope on the car and when it reared up they pulled me out instead.

Was that the year of the monstrous floods?

Boating along Molesey main road into Woolworth's to "clear the shelves" I heard!!

I remember Downside Bridge going.

Good morning Gents. It was 1968 I think, I'd have been 18. BTW, I turned the three photos the right way up on my PC, but I can't work out why two are twisted on TFF. I tried the edit button last night but to no avail. Advice gratefully received please.

Quite exciting then. I'd rate that as a 'near miss' and a change of underpants story.

If I remember rightly, Cortina's wouldn't start if there was a puddle ten yards away! I put mine into a road wide puddle and my girlfriend (now wife) had to push me out :Chuckle:

I had a number of Cortinas as a rep in the 70's.
Nice car, but as you say, carrying a couple of tins of WD40 was more important than the spare wheel!
