Unidentified Sowerbutts 2 piece rod.

Post by Fredline »

Can anyone help with the identify of this between the wars Sowerbutts 2 piece Avon style rod. It is 10’ with a whole cane bottom section coupled with a whole cane/greenheart spliced top. It is equipped with Low Bells Life rings, brass half sliding reel fittings with a brass butt cap and spike cover screw. The ferrule is spiked and the tip ring is partly wire wrapped. It is marked with the Sowerbutts roundel and comes in its original labelled bag.

If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

Possibly one of the Pictor range of roach rods. There are quite a lot of variations of this rod and they did offer customer specials too.

What you have is a punt rod or a Sheffield rod.
They were both made in the same way
