Newly Aquired from a good fishing Buddy.

Post by JimmyR »

My newly acquired Chapmans 500 DE-LUXE, a friend Brought it over 40yrs ago and "In the words of Lui Walsh "Made it his own" i know it looks different but it is very nice but my photos do it no Justice at all.

He has added extra eyes and intermediate whippings and it has not been used since he done it, i hope you approve.
The Whipping is real Silk, and the cane is a lovely Honey color.

Going to try it out later for some perch, i have Lobs and Prawns, as recommended (not to me but in others posts) and Thought yes give it a go.

You Lucky Lucky man Jimmy,

I've been after a chapmans 500 since joining this forum in 2012, every time I see one I haven't got the funds to invest, so I live in hope that one day I might come across one at a car boot fair or see one cheap in an antique shop....one never knows. :Beg:

God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.

When you think how many Cane Rods we must have turned our noses up at over the years at boot sales and other places, Makes me shudder lol.

Forgot to say, "I did buy it from him" and at the price he asked.

Kingfisher,

I'm on the same quest as you.

Loop beat me to a slightly shortened 500 last year. I will get one in the end.

If ever you happen to come across a pair then Gaz, please think of me and I shall do the same.

Jimmy, the amount of cane rods I passed up as a youngster who's parents used to visit car boots every weekend is unbeleivable. I'm now well and truly kicking myself.

The 500 is a cracking rod, I have one I bought a few years ago from Wal and I love it for light ledgering or close in work for perch with a float. My mate Kev owns three........lucky B**tard, hardly ever uses one as he prefers the MK1V Avon.........some people...Ha!

Went with just Lobs, brought three packs of Prawns that were going out of date so they were cheap, £1.25 each, got them home and put them in the freezer, was that eager to get out that i forgot them, anyway christened the 500 with couple of nice roach, was not over the moon as i know there are nice Perch in the water but not a snifter.

Next time Bumble i will give your cocktail a go.
