Re: 500?
Actually looking at that 500 script, is it not 300? Maybe the length of the rod, 10ft or 3m. Just a thought.

Re: 500?
Thankyou for all the replies and links,I will refurb the rod using the 500 delux ring spacing but will not write Chapmans on the blank. What ever it is I am quite happy with it for the money I paid,I suppose that's all that really matters. Cheers John

Re: 500?
The rings and inters are in different silk,so one, the other, or both, might have been added later... but the handle is built up on an aluminium tube...I'd say it's a Chapman. The ferrules look right too. The tip does look a bit thick, maybe it's lost an inch or two, hence the funny tip ring, but it'll still fish nicely, they're well-balanced rods.

Re: 500?
I did'nt realise the handles were built on aluminium tubes, so thanks for the information! I made my 500 lookalike handle on split cane which is a tad heavier but gives good balance and bends well, so I think I'll stick to cane for my handles, and then in 50 years time collectors will know my rod is not a 500 (as well as 100 other reasons they'll know it's not).

You do sometimes find things inside the aluminium handles Nobby, especially the ones with the plastic end caps. I have found a couple of floats, a few rolled up day tickets and a packet of rusty hooks. One of these days I may be lucky and find a couple of rolled up fivers inside one.
