Re: should i be worried
Hi Gord,
It looks to me like a Chapman type handle built on an aluminium tube, if so it could simply be a section of the corks are coming loose and need regluing. It could also be a broken tube underneath the cork, try pulling and twisting the cork sections apart and that should give you the answer one way or another.
Its a fairly easy fix whichever one it is. Any problems just drop me a PM and I'll help the best I can.

Gord, If it feels really solid then yes you could try filling it and just keep an eye on it to see if it gets any worse during use.

Re: should i be worried
I had something similar on a Mk4 it seemed to me its where the glue breaks down and also the cork shinks and breaks probably due to the strain and twisting when side strain is applied. I ended up putting a couple of new cork sections in because it was in the middle of the handle. You might be able to get the end section off with a bit of heat ie put a suitable piece of metal inside the handle so you can heat the metal and not the cork then give it gentle pull and twist as Wal described. Never tried it but might work?

Re: should i be worried
I have now found out the cause of the problem,it happened yesterday while fishing for some carp every time I caught one the gap got bigger so I had a closer look and instead of a one piece tube it is a ferrule over what looks like a fibre glass tube and it was the ferrule that had come unstuck and was slowly moving up the fibre glass so its an easy fix even for me
