Re: The General
Referencing the politician who "mis-spoke" this last week. A personal mis-thought....
Being aware of a rod named Sapper I assumed that one named General
would be a cut above? What a rude realisation that turned out to be!
I also once bought a rod named Greaves...
Turns out nothing relating to the W/C footballing Jimmy. Oh dear!
Back to topic, that's a nice looking weapon, looks as tho' it should be light to hand too.

Re: The General
Greaves - The unmelted residue left after animal fat has been rendered. - Used for bait!
From ""Angling Ways by E Marshal-Hardy. Barbel Baits Greaves - Prepared after the manner of stew. Select pieces for the hook.""
The upper class had Hardy Generals - them down there had Allcocks Sappers.
Oh! And a lovely restored rod!

Re: The General
Thanks Olly... So just as in my old woodwork classes melted horses are involved!
I think I will stick to my version...
I'm still looking out for a rod named Saint to match up!

Re: The General
Unfortunately - very true!
In the 60's I had a girlfriend in Sunbury near a Sundeala factory, (who still make hobby/chip boards in Cam, Dursley), who used this glue only at night as I was wending my way home after midnight -- it stunk - really stunk!!
