Another gem from Hardy of 1929 vintage
I came across this quite rare Hardy Featherweight Roach rod from 1929.
It is 3 piece 10.5ft long and has a lovely action, I have a 1921 catalogue and they were priced at £7 18s, their most expensive coarse rod at the time, and it is easy to see why, although they were half the cost of the top fly rods Hardy were producing.
At the time Hardy offered the 3 piece Featherweight Roach, and the 2 piece Perfection Roach, I have one of these from 1926 and it is like a modified fly rod, very much a through action rod, the featherweight has a much more progressive taper.
It looks to have been restored, and I think this was done a good while ago by someone who knew what they were doing, the reason I say this, the rings look to be replica copies of the original rings, it has the original agate butt ring and roach tip ring, although the tip ring is missing its support arms, the locking suction joint ferrules are lovely too, It is straight as an arrow, I may re-do it, or give it a bit of a tidy up.
It is a shame with all this snow I can't christen it tomorrow!

A very rare rod Paul, top quality and definitely deserves a good rebuild.
It looks likes there's a ground spike inside that butt cap too.
Wal.

A fine rod . You seem to have a knack of picking up great items of tackle and then using them for the intended purpose ..... catching fish.

Wal, I checked and I am pretty sure you are correct, but it is stuck fast, I will have to get some WD40 on itWallys-Cast wrote: ↑Sat Mar 03, 2018 12:03 pm A very rare rod Paul, top quality and definitely deserves a good rebuild.
