I've always assumed Palakona to be Hardys trade name for Tonkin cane, used to distinquish it from Calcutta cane that was originally used.

This is verbatim from a 1970 Hardy's catalogue:
"Palakona" is the trade name given to our top quality cane built rods. The Tonkin bamboo from which these rods are built, is the subject of constant consideration, to ensure that we always get the very best. Even then, only the most perfect pieces are chosen for "Palakona" rods.

Thanks Snape, I should have said 'trade name for rods made from Tonkin'. From 1950 until 1971 Hardy's probably did have the choice of the best cane as no cane was going directly to the USA because of the trade embargo on goods from China.

Re: Hardy Wanless 9/10lb version
Does anyone have Hardy Wanless 9/10lb version as the writing on mine say 9/0 lb, just wondering if they missed the number 1 off on all the rods.

I have 7ft and 10ft Wanless rods in the 9/10lb class and they both say 9/10lb so I think its got to be as you thought Mark, they just missed the 1off when signing it.

A super looking bit of kit, and it appears to be in A1 nick too! The nearest thing I have to that is a B James Grebe, at 8 1/2 ft.
