Jim , the rod handle was " onion" , and the whippings were the usual B.James garnet .

..so a 'new' one on me then. So seems some continued parallels with the taper/trumpet Avocets with percieved Southwell cane and later James own onion based rods?...

Jim , it was an odd one but more valuable than a B.James avocet . It belonged to my brother in law and I sold it on his behalf . It got the usual money that a James version would get but I was told later that they were worth twice as much and the buyer was willing to pay the price . I never knew that it was supposed to be a rare rod . All is fair in love and war though , my bro in law picked it up for a snip so he was happy and so I imagine was the buyer !

...I'd pay more than for an Avocet if someone would sell me one!
