Looks like a genuine broken mkiv to me and the seller does say ideal for repairs or spare parts. I've see worse go for £150 just for the handle section. Not odd at all really and an honest description by the seller! Someone will buy it for the butt section alone and have a new tip made.

Somebody might buy it for the value of the rings and other metal work.
