edgar sealey octofloat

Post by NiceRoach »

The perils of eBay again, - 'won' the auction for a nice looking Edgar Sealey until it arrived; :surrender:

It has be revarnished to a very poor standard ' not evident in any of the auction photos ' where it looked fine,
and was described as restored and lovely.

The varnish looks to have been put on with a trowel and has runs all over each section, to the extent I wouldn't know
where to start? - It really is dreadful.

I genuinely don't think the seller was pulling a fast one, however, I feel I need to tell him, reluctantly but where do you begin
with 'the over varnishing' :Hair out:

Why not start a dispute and get your money back, "not as described" is good enough reason. You will win the case, and should get post labels from Paypal. Hermes can ship tubes of up to 120cms. I had one idiot who refused to pay very cheap return post, refused to return low priced goods (cannot have been bad then?). We both got full refunds. Good luck with whatever you decide.

ps. Paypal labels use Royal Mail labels and you will need a printer.

Do they also charge for the label?

I have not noticed any charge for post labels, and I do check them. Presume the rod will be short enough package not to be pricey. A 3 Piece 11 foot rod?

Part of the pleasure for me is the refurbishment of rods.

If the price were not too high, the cane sound and the rod rings in good condition then I would probably strip the rod down, re whip the rings and varnish the cane to my satisfaction.

On the other hand if you really feel that you have been sold a pup then by all means open a dispute.
The coiled line travels from the reel, it brings up at last, the hook goes home, and then begins the test of skill. "BB"

I would send the seller a message telling them how you feel and the problems you have encountered first of all, especially if you feel, as you say, that it may not be intentional. If you do not get the response you want and it isn't sorted... go in with a dispute. If the seller is not knowledgeable of cane, they may think that shiny is good enough on an old rod.

Keston/Wet Feet

Not did anything yet decided to sleep on it and have another look at things today.

I agree with Reedling that the problem might be that the seller thought it was just a very shiny rod with 'lots' of varnish.

The varnish actually seems good quality, just with runs and build up everywhere. The cane is fine, but it's now a project rod or a headache depending on one's outlook.

Best

p.s. I'll update the thread
