The "Foravon"

Post by Scott »

Any body heard of this model? I picked one up off ebay a while ago now, I was looking for an affordable Mk IV style rod which it is, paid about £50 I think. I had no idea it was an F.T. Williams, it was advertised as a Craftsman. Was going to post a pic of the logo as I had no idea of the brand, after following this thread and seeing some of the pics I was able to identify it. Only used it once, it performed like a dream, see picture;

Lucky that reel didn't fall off Scott :wink:

A proper carp, that.

It's a lovely lean fish but it's got no lips! Your net looks rather nice from what I can see of it.

I can assure you it has got lips, it's the angle of the camera I think, it's not a carp from a commercial that's been caught a thousand times! It's one of Brayton Pond's finest. An ancient pond with a very old strain, the website claims they're wildies, not so sure myself. The net's one of Dave Austin's efforts...

Phew… that's a relief, thanks. I get a bit sad when I see fish with mouth damage.

Thank you also for the detail on your net.

All the ponds around here, some of them hidden and forgotten have fish just like that in them, though nothing as big.

It certainly looks like a wild carp to me, there's nothing at all to suggest it's any 'modern' parentage.

A really nicely composed photo, great tackle, splendid carp. :thumb:

I've only just seen this thread.

That looks like a wildie to me scott, it has no hump above the head, it's hard to say though as the ones I catch in Llyngwyn have a much golder tinge to them. Probably due to depth or colour of the water though.

For reference.

Mine has a split fin as can be seen in the pic, I'd caught that fish before but on a fly, it was 9lb

God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.
