Speedia reels, want a shallower arbour ?
Hi,
I know Nobby did, and successfully did it with cork, others have done similar things. I have designed one in 3D and printed on a Makerbot 3D printer using black ABS at 25% fill. Here is the link to the "thing" which you can download, and print if you have a 3D printer, or access to one, or even engage a third party to make one for you, there are a number that will mail it to you for a price (not sure what it would cost in UK) Obviously you will need to get 2 printed, as its two halves of the same item. If there are a number of TFF members who really want one, I will even print some and post them to UK, if you are collectively happy to pay for the mailing costs. If there was enough demand for a wide drum version, I could design one, but would need the precise measurements of the inside drum as I don't have one. PLease note that the model I have designed this for is the MK3 improved ?? drum width may or may not vary on my sample of 1

Terrifying !!! All we need now is a 3D scanner and we can all have B. James Mk IV Avons !!!

Heck, the corks OK, but there's still a tad of Thruppeny bit about it and the cork is soft and I might get line bedding in issues.
I want one of them!
I suppose you've no idea what it might weigh yet? The light weight of the Speedia spool is the key to its lovely action, I think.
I like the little clip to hold it together until you get some line on it.
If you do go ahead with a small run, put me down for 001 !

Weighs bugger all, it is printed with 25% fill, internally it looks like cardboard, or a beehive.

I've only just done mine with backing line and cork tape and filled it with maxima! Does this mean I'll have to start again. Great idea! I wonder what else one could print for fishing!!! Dozens of things!!

I'm afraid this was over my ( balding ) head, but I gather it's 'fibrous' in nature...full of air...and therefore light?
Genius application of modern technology. I wish you weren't so far away..anybody else fancy taking MM up on his generous offer to create a few for us?
