the marks will probably be water damage ,it seeps into the metal and is the first stages of oxidation process .and is probably permanent (self anodised) but autosol is great at not just polishing up the metal but will halt the oxidation .

don't over do it though ,you don't want too dazzle the fishies.

I think the one on the left would be an easy touch up for some black paint. Not sure it constitutes stripping in my opinion

Same here. However I find the old paint used on a Speedia is a tricky match, there's black and there's black.

the left being a first model speedia ,satin black looks good on them as does wilko's BBQ black which is a matt then a satin clear lacquer top coat .but I prefer them striped back and slightly polished (not shined up) to protect the metal with the brass foot polished and the centre cap de chromed and polished too .

where as the one on the right being a improved model ,if done well looks great in satin black (I use wilko's ,mostly because its closer than B&Q ,but most satin blacks look ok) but look equally as good stripped and lightly polished.

to strip or not too strip ,its always down to percentage of paint wear ,a little adds character but too much makes them look shabby. I normally decide on the state of the spool rather than back but it depends on which is worse.

I agree those early speedias are a gem with the added bonus of they usually go for less brass.
Keep it quite :secret:
