Re: Abu 444a
Another super-clean reel! I've only ever seen those with the cream paint of the rotor head very discoloured with age.

They are a damn fine reel with a lovely smooth clutch.... had mine for years... not as clean as that one though Lee...
Just one more cast love, and I'll be on me way home

I use mine for most of my fishing. I find the clutch is in a good position for altering during playing a fish and it's one of the sweetest clutches out. I wish the paint on mine was as good as yours.

Re: Abu 444a
This is one my favorites of my reel collection, this reel has the brass side plate badge which is almost primitively held on to the side plate with folding lugs.
In the pictures of this 1964 model you can see the drag has a setting from 0-7 and the spool has the early release button, it was also the first egg shaped reel to be painted in green and cream. Later reels had 0-9 on drag and the last model had a big push button release. Probably the worst spool came on the last 333 which was a screw on affair made from some hideous plastic that looks like as soon as it sees the cold it will break like frozen toffee, could even be graphite.

What is the silver hook thing for BML Sir? I've never taken mine apart, so didn't even realise what it was like inside.
