I know what your saying about the price of Chenille, poxy stuff should be given free in meter lengths when you buy a certain reel.
I believe its available from Daiwa and fits several reels inc ABU's according to another forum.

I like the idea of large O rings, have you tried them yourself?

I recently purchased some bespoke Abu 506 spools from Gary Mills that have large O rings fitted in lieu of chenille . Not had a single tangle with them so it seems an elegant solution ...

I also purchased a couple from an ebay seller - 'skylark31' - based in Derbyshire. Were they made by Gary Mills?
1 for a 507 and 2 for 501/506 - all with rubber O rings on front & back.

Having a variety of closed face reels inc Abumatics I recently purchased the following.
The chenille is £2.99 + p & p = total £5.98; for 4 lengths of black from 'malstorey'.
White chenille from 'jimbomitchell' was £6.99 for 2 lengths. This is thicker stuff.

You'll wait a hell of a long time for him to reply ..... Best to give him a call on the ear trumpet but ensure you allow plenty of time for the call , he talks the hind legs off of donkeys!!

Try 'skylark31' - his spools are excellent at about £22.

I have also not had any problems with line since buying one early last year.

'skylark31' is Classic Vintage Tackle - Les Shaw - who also has new Abu 54/55/57 spools available - as recommended to me by a Member of TFF!

I must say up front that I haven't tried it on an Abu reel, but I recently found a replacement chenille for Mitchell Match spools. It's not quite the same in that it has no wire running through it.

It was sold as a fly dressing and cost pennies.

Please note there are different thickness.
