Fabulous looking fish.
Andrew, the Whopper Stopper MkIII – have you been able to achieve the taper and strength of the original without needing to resort to double building? How does it compare weight wise to a MkIV? I'm very interested in this rod, it might be exactly what I'm looking for.

Hi Beresford ,Well i have made a MKIII and although i cant remember where i read a comment from Richard Walker.The gist of it was there was no need to double build .Yes it would make it stiffer,how much? but it does make it a lot heavier and its a lot more difficult to make . You see all you would have to do is build the diameter up to make it stronger,. Anyway i built a MKIII for a client single built. It felt very strong and it had a much faster taper than a MKIV with loads of back bone in the butt. It is a rod for big fish or for hook and hold tactics. I made this one with a shorter handle so i whipped it same as the MKIV.

That's what's on my mind. Problem is I have such an erratic income that committing to buy anything that I can't pay for there and then in cash is a tough call for me but one I'm sure I'll overcome.

A days grayling fishing with Andyb on the Dove .We had a terrific session with lots of fish, grayling, dace and chub.
The Nottingham Style Roach makes a superb grayling rod, its quiet versatile and it had to be because i hooked up with a very powerful fish which turned out to be a fabulous dove specimen,short,stocky and immaculate, the scales went to 9lb . Wow great fish on my favorite float rod. 3lb hook link and size 16 double maggot.
