Eel have now been caught in Springrock which is only a 5 year old fishery. They've got in there from the stream that fills the pool.
Hopefully their numbers are picking up again?

There are quite a few in Chalk Springs Trout Fishery, its only a long cast from the river Arun and connected to it by a small stream. I tried to catch an eel on a fly at Avington in the bottom lake, it was lying under a small Alder tree only a couple of yards from the bank. The eel was not interested in my nymph and then a trout grabbed the fly ! Most annoying.

The eel life cycle is not fully understood, there is a very good entry in Wikipedia . .

I'm eel fishing tonight. Just caught lots of bleak for bait and I'm hopeing for a few bigguns.

Not many fish for eels on the Thames and they are still plentifull but now very much hit and miss affair.

I caught a small eel yesterday on sweetcorn put out for tench. I love them. It was the first thing I caught and it made my night. Photos to follow when I have chance to do a write up for my journal.

I read today that they are critically endangered and there are 90-98% fewer returning to British rivers than in 1970.

I have caught more in recent years though. Hopefully they are on the up.

Never caught an eel and not really bothered about them but i do want to catch a Redmire eel, hopefully next year on my next visit
