I have rod No 6287 also with patent applied for. It has whole cane spliced into whole cane for the middle section, I believe the later ones had a short length of split cane spliced into whole cane middle sections.

My Swimversa has rod number 8340 and has the short length of split cane spliced into the whole cane middle section. A superb rod in my view and a joy to use.

Hi I think it is never to late to add any extra information that may help. I also have a Milward Swimversa, 12 foot long, Split cane butt, whole cane middle with whole cane insert, twin taper split cane tip, Patent applied for written on the butt section and with the twin taper tip transfer, rod number 7184 a bit of a dog at the moment but will be nice when I have given it some TLC and fresh varnish

Anyone who has patent applied for on their rod is going to date between 1958 & January 1961 when the patent application was granted.
There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.

Copied and pasted from the other Millwards rod numbers post. I meant it to go here.

A small snippet of information from my 1962 Millwards catalogue states that, the Angling Times of 15th June 1958 included the Swimversa in its series "Tackle talk" and they called it a rod that is truly revolutionary. So we could assume the rod was fairly recent in the early part of 1958. I suppose it depends how many they made in a year but low rod numbers could indicate they were made in 1958.

I believe they also added a further transfer to the rod I assume in 1964 - being 'All England Winner 1963' I think but would of course stand corrected on that if appropriate. It should however help with dating the year of manufacture.
