According to an on-line money calculator that's £6,000 in today's money which must be seen as exceptional value. With a syndicate of ten there would be hundreds on the waiting list today. Double it and the queue to join would still be a long one.

Not as much as I expected then - probably could have filled it several times over.
As you say split nine ways (didn't Mr. Hilton fish for free as the Syndicate boss and at any time he desired or perhaps I dreamt that?) whilst the others fished on a rotation of three per week?
