A GRAND DAY OFF

Post by TrentFisher »

<r>Mid week and a day off.

Up at my normal time 5.30am but no rush to be fishing.

First pleasure of the day a stroll with my terrier "Fudge",which includes a look at my local stretch of the Trent.
As it is already windy I am on the look out for some perch spots with a bit of cover.

Early lunch
Worms gathered from the garden and off

Despite the wind I will be float fishing the margins

After about 40 minutes and no action from the first swim and a further increase to the wind a move is on the cards.

I settle in to my new swim which is a small bay, there are a number of large willows to my right and these are filtering the wind making the swim quite settled.
The hook is baited with a Dendra.
The cast is made with a hopeful heart.
A minute passes.
My float dips.
It sails away.
I make the strike.
Missed!
A sigh............
The hook is rebaited.
The cast made.
A few minutes pass.
My float,
dips again.
It rises slightly.
Then sails away again.
I make the strike.
Solid resistance.
The jagging fight is felt through my rod, followed by the surges for freedom of this Trent perch.
Following a spirit fight my prize lays safely in the folds of my net.
I admire the beauty of this 2lb plus perch.
After it's return there is just enough time for another cast.
My float dips again.
And sails away.
Contact is made.
I admire the beauty for the second time of this .....3 ounce perch.............smashing.

Thank you for reading.
Nige..
Well done Nigel.
