Needed a lift!

Just back from a camping weekend with Wifey and the boys at a small local Farm pool and camp site.
Fished in the sunshine Saturday. As I set up I watched the carp cruising in the sunshine, plainly not interested in feeding. I set up my Rodrill float rod and Mitchell 300 with a straight waggler, the intention being to fish to a reed bed a short distance along my margin. Set up, all good, sweetcorn as hook bait, boiled wheat as feed.
Pretty much from the off bites are coming thick and fast, unfortunately fish on the bank are some what scarce! This started me playing with shot patterns, gradually moving shot closer to the bait to try to get it through to the bottom before it was intercepted. 1/2 an hours play and there's a shot 2" from the hook, the float twitches then rises, quick strike and a short fight and the 1st Skimmer is landed. A pinch of wheat, float back in over the top, same result.
Whilst I'm sure the lift method is very familiar to many of you, this was quite a revelation to me, I've only been fishing for a couple of years. So entered into a world of pole flats, method feeders and boilies. I had read about the lift method, but it always looked too complicated to me, balance this, overshot that! I ended up with a simple tell tale shot around 2" from the hook, this when lifted allowed the float to rise about 1/4" but it worked beautifully. I sat ignoring the majority of dips and bobs on the float. Even sail away bites resulted in few hooked fish, but if that float lifted, a quick strike invariably ended in a cleanly hooked skimmer, F1 or small carp.
So now it's me that's hooked. The lift will be my preferred method as I try to work out the little things!

Pleased it worked out but whatever sort of fish is an F1?

Glad you had fun with the 'lift' Lucky - it's been a favourite of mine for roach and tench in certain conditions for more years than I care to remember. So simple - so effective, especially if the rod is set in two rests with your hand by the butt ready for action.

It was fantastically effective Jerry. I've never been so sure when striking that there would be a fish on the other end!
Never had the rod in a rest though, just sat with the butt and reel between forearm and knee. Having read a little more about it I'm not sure I was truly fishing "the" lift method, more a case of fishing with a tell tale shot allowing the float to rise. Either way it worked brilliantly and will be something I practice a lot in coming months
