Hello all from wet, sorry west Wales.
Hello All,
As I enjoy using older and more traditional tackle decided this is the place for me.
I'm a bit of an all rounder, fly for game and coarse fish, sea not so much these days, I'm now spending my time getting back into coarse fishing after a lay off of over 30 years!
Living in west Wales means there's not much coarse fishing locally, so have to "make do" with the stocked ponds or travel to get to the wild fish. No problem with the fly though.
Rods? My favourite at the moment is a Chapmans Jo Di Maggio fly rod. There's not much information available on this rod, even when I contacted Chapmans they didn't have much information or records.
I also like to use old coarse fibre glass rods, particularly old D.A.M. rods which I believe are under rated.
Reels are my thing though and use Mitchells, a Cardinal,a 506 and Hardy Marquis (also old USA Penns for sea fishing). I particularly like the small 200 series Mitchells.
I really believe that the old reels are much better than plasticky new reels, some may argue that the new reels have better drags though.
Well I think I've prattled on enough for my first post, don't want to bore you all
Oswy.

Hi Oswy, welcome aboard
Not a fish was visible that first time I visited Beechmere; an utter
stillness brooded over the place and I felt the strange and sinister atmosphere which, so the story goes,
has been the cause of several suicides.’

I spend a lot of free time up north, Gwynedd.fishing, cycling and hiking.
I spent a week last month at Garnfford park trout fishery, down there south, it was nice in the Valleys, though it did rain for three days.
But it wouldnt be so green if there were no soft days,The Irish sing a song about it called Forty Shades Of Green,
Wales has at least thirty five..

Garnffrwd, just down the road from me, only fished it once.
A nice trout fishery with clear water, a bit too small for me.
I like the big trout waters such as "The Dam" Llyn Clywedog, but prefer the rivers for trout and grayling.
