I Fish local ( when I get the time) one tackle shop left in east London ! Or up the Lea or indeed very occasionally Roding Valley

Very occasional I catch a fish.

It's a good forum and there's a few on here I know the Lea a lot better than me ..

All the best TD

Thank you TD.The area I grew up and fished was Haggerston,by the canal bridge on Queensbridge road.Jonny Lees tackle shop was down "The Waste "as us locals called it,on Kingsland Rd.I used the tackle shop on the Broadway as well and now use the one in Roman Rd as you do.I have fond memories of catching your name sake by the Acton lock when the canal produced some of its best fishing about 30 odd years ago. When I look at the canal now,it seems canal boat owners have discovered just what a great part of London the area is.

I grew up with Hardy fibalite rods (though the CTM's were more popular on the match circuit), ABU cardinals and Mitchells as the gold standards of early seventies tackle. There are many enthusiasts of those rods and reels here. A word of warning: you will inevitably be drawn towards cane rods and centrepins. The love of them is highly addictive and there is no known cure (at least not on this site). We look forward to reading your posts.

Thank you Mitch300.
I remember my hesitation whether to buy my first B and W or the Equally highly rated Hardy,my mind was made up by my fishing partner Pete who landed a near double figure Barbel on his CTM with ease on a night fishing trip to Dorney Reach on the Thames.I still admire the Hardy rods of that era and might treat myself to one,if my wife loosens the purse strings.I think I am starting to feel the lure of a cane rod as well....your warning is timely and well received.
