New boy

Post by Alan Morton »

Hello all , my name is Alan I live in Buckinghamshire and have been fishing since the summer of 1968 when my grandmother gIve me a cane float rod and centre pin for my birthday. So I have now been fishing for 50 years mostly on the Thames but also many lakes . I have been a modern carper/ angler for most of that time having to have the New this that or the other , but over the last year or so I've been yearning for a simpler way and so purchased my first split cane rod this month a stepped up MKiv carp rod , I've used it twice so far and fallen in love with it , and so I think my wallet may be taking g a beating soon . One little question for you all , I'm not sure what reel to buy to accompany the Mkiv ,so any suggestions would be very welcome. I look forward to reading through all the topics on the forum and hopefully getting involved and carried away with it all . Alan

A hearty welcome, Sir ... and I'm sure you'll be receiving many suggestions to match whatever budget you have.

Welcome Alan, my suggestion for a Mark IV would be a Mitchell 300, probably the most versatile anyway!

A good solid centerpin would be a Mordex Merlin... they are a good pin and suited to carp fishing... I have a pair mated to Sharpes rods...
