Hello to everyone

Post by Wanderer »

Hello to everyone .

I am pleased to be accepted onto the forum.

My name is Neal and I live in Pontefract in Yorkshire.
I am 63 years of age and have fished from boyhood.
My first rod was a whole cane rod of some sort and my first reel was an intrepid Black prince.
When I was a boy, many of the local rivers and streams were devoid of fish (and virtually all kinds of life) due to heavy pollution from the Mining, steel, textile, chemical and miscellaneous other forms of heavy industry.
With friends, I used to fish ponds at Frickley colliery, known as the "south pump" and also used to travel on coaches from the Pretoria WMC at South Elmsall to venues on the river Trent. We also caught the train to fish the river Wharfe at Ulleskelf and the Ouse at York.

These days, things are much better and I take great pleasure in fishing the much cleaner Rivers, Aire, Calder, Don, Dearne and Went. I also fish a couple of nice ponds for Roach, Rudd , Tench and Crucian carp.

I am a passionate conservationist and take pleasure in fishing in uncomplicated ways in beautiful places, surrounded by nature.

The tackle I use, is dependent on the venue, but I like to use centrepins for trotting and close range float fishing on ponds.
I also use swing tips and cane and vintage glass rods, when appropriate.

Best wishes to you all.
