Another Delmatic 2

Post by Andyman » Tue Mar 24, 2020 9:18 pm

Reel arrived yesterday and just plucked up courage to get the screw driver out.
Looks very good condition, smooth operation etc. just black dirt around spindle/pivot points. Very impressed with build quality.
Gearing and connection arm are covered in very clean looking green grease. Does anyone know if this is original or, more likely, a recent-ish service.
Also anything I should be aware of before removing handle spindle and gear block?
Thanks
Andy

You may need to turn the rotor to let the main gear and crank come out, due to the worm drive gearing. Keep an eye out for tiny transparent plastic washers either side of the crank..they get lost so easily.

Make sure the anti-reverse pawl on the side cover doesn't work it's way back again when tapped....many do this and you have to take action to keep the anti-reverse from switching itself off! Usually clouting something with a hammer....mostly the pivot to stiffen it just slightly...

This reel has the later Delrin greyish plastic gears which are very smooth. The black plastic Delrin drive shaft for the rotor isn't so good and needs to be immaculate to turn freely...as does its shaft in the main body.

Watch out for loose rust on the bail arm, it's always on the bit that's hardest to see.

Andy Dont use grease in any Ambidex type reels. they should only be lubricated using very light oil.

Yes, I had seen that. Definitely packed with grease when I opened it up but will use light oil when all de greased and cleaned.
