Looks ok to me, but I am sure that some of our craftsmen on this forum could find fault! ( In the most constructive way of course!)

It's definitely an ameteur job and there's a bit of burr around the holes, but I like it.
This reel has history and character.

Yes, a light touch with a countersinking bit would dress those holes up nicely. I think 'amateur' might be a bit unfair..it is incredibly hard to both mark-out and drill, such holes accurately. For that matter it's quite easy to thrupenny bit the holes with a countersink bit......


In the days when motorcyclists drilled everything to lighten it ...it soon became clear it really isn't anything like as easy as it sounds......


There was one 'dealer' selling just such a 'ported' reel a few months ago...insisting it was a rare double ventilated Aerial and asking a price to suit....he didn't sell it.

I have just been puzzling over the photographs of a reel like this on t'Bay.

Then I read the description.
