ID on possible JW Young reel and another reel

Post by Frogstar »

Hi guys.

I acquired this reel recently. It is a large reel at least 4", with wide spool.

It came with a label that said it was a JW young but without any makers name on the reel I have no idea. Apparently the foot is classic Young?

Then do you guys know anything about this bakelite/Ebonite brass centre pin. Only has a small logo. Also large 4" reel

Thanks in advance.

It is indeed a Young's number 9 trade pattern and having the tension screw adjuster would suggest it was a 4 1/2" sea reel. :Hat:

Looks like a design registration lozenge pre patent 1842 1883?

Thanks for the feedback guys appreciate it, any idea where I can get more info on the JW young reel, circa etc.

I read somewhere that the reels JW Young made for Allcocks where not marked, is this credible?

A pre-War JW Young centrepin reel with JW Young on it is a rarity. I've only seen a handful, they usually have no name at all or the name of another trader.
