Allcocks Aerialite

Post by Bargee »

I've just bought one of these cheaply (on a whim) thinking it would make a smart reel for still water use. I've just read (somewhere, can't remember where though) that the drums can crush with line pressure when using them with mono...

Can anybody confirm or refute this? I was thinking of using mine with 3lb - 5lb mono for light carp/tench/bream etc.

Never had a problem with my Allcocks Aerialite which has seen many a bream and a few tench in the 3lb bracket and I have had the reel since 1963. Never used it for carp mind you as I generally pair the reel with an Allcocks Viking.

I've taken carp to about 10lb on mine. No problems. They don't spin well but for short distance still water fishing pretty bomb proof

I too use mine with a Allcocks Viking, very underrated reels, had my pb perch using it, I was more concerned about the greenheart tip rather than the reel, I'm going to look for another to use on my lucky strike.

I was given one in the early 90s it was my pride and joy together with my Mitchell 300. Unfortunately my tackle was stolen a few years later and it never got replaced.
