A E Rudge "Specimen" Rod

Post by Kingfisher »

I just bought myself a Birthday Pressie more suited to the carp lake I fish.

It looks a lovely rod but I think it will be re-whipped before it ventures out.

is it just me or does everybody else think that the colour of the whippings detracts from the vintage scene?

Whipping aside, I still think it looks a decent rod.

Appologies if someone on here is selling it and now I've gone and offended them over their colour choice.

I was watching that one KF, i don't mind the colours but plain garnet would look nice.
one thing I thought was the the reel bands looked a little squashed, but perhaps thats the photo.

Good luck with it.

I see what you mean Gaz, I han't really noticed the reel bands.

It should look nice with different coloured whippings and a bit of a spruce up.

I may well go with garnet.

Yeah, I'm not sure about those whippings. Will be nice when it's done. And it's nice to catch a fish on something you have made or worked on yourself.

It has a bit of the deck chair about it. Not my taste but I have seen Dawson's Sabina with similar stripy whipping

I have to admit MG's after reading your comment, I did chuckle. The whippings may make her look like a deck chair but I was very impressed today when I opened the package. There is a lovely plop from the ferrules, when pulled apart, the rod is lovely to handle and after fearing that it had squashed reel seats that doesn't seem to be the case.

I only hope i can do her justice, when I re-whip her.

Congratulations on your new acquisition sir, you never know until you actually have your purchase in hand whether it’s disappointment or satisfaction with anything from Ebay

There seems to have been a thread available that changed colour , abruptly, every foot or so, causing some rods to have long bands of alternating tones at the tip, while the whippings nearer the butt look like a zebra's rear end. Saved doing tippings, I suppose.

Garnet, green or black for me, with darker or contrasting tippings if time permits.
