Precision Rods "R Sealey's Match-Winner JFT" 11ft. 3in.

Post by AshbyCut »

After a totally frustrating 56 hours without an internet connection ... I can now properly report that this rod is currently winging it's way to me.

To go alongside my 12ft. version this 11ft. 3in version of the same name, of which I was previously unaware, looks to be in really very good condition.

It's a 3 piece rod, which I assume is Spanish Reed butt, Spanish Reed spliced to whole can middle, and an all split cane tip. This is unusual, as even the 10ft. 6in. rods I have of this style from this maker normally have a whole cane spliced to split cane tip.

More photos will follow when it arrives.

((PS ... I still have no idea about who 'JFT' was !!!))

Another Sealey returns to its "spiritual" home
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

The rod arrived this morning ... and it must be Christmas as it's 'a cracker. !!!

Straight as a die, and ready to be fished ... the best condition rod of this style I've been able to acquire.

I do, however, have to rectify an error I made in my original post (making assumptions is always dodgy !!!).

The rod weighs in heavier than I expected at 13.6oz. (385gr) ... with the butt alone being 8.9os. (253gr) with a 21.5in. handle.

When I compared this to the butt of the 12ft version I have with it's 22.5in. handle, I found that this weighed less at 8.6oz (245gr).

I know that the 12ft. rod has a Spanish Reed butt, as part of the lacquering is missing ... so I now believe that the shorter 11ft. 3in. version is, in fact, a whole cane butt and not Spanish Reed as I originally thought.

I was also delighted to find the rod has been purchased from a TFF member who generously enclosed a small gift !!! Thank you, Sir !!!
