R. Sealey's Festival - of course 'twas I.

Post by AshbyCut »

I collected this rod from Pafpuff yesterday, and extensive use of the digital caliper today has confirmed that this one is the version with a 'simple' straight through taper. The example I already had has a 'compound taper' in the centre section.

Perhaps that's why Robert Sealey made the handle on this straight taper version 20 inches long, instead of 21 1/2 inches on the other ... or perhaps it was at a customer's request. We'll never know of course, but it's fun to speculate.

The quality of CaneAndAble's restoration is, of course, impeccable ... and having the Tom Watson of Nottingham retailers sticker still in place adds to the charm of this lovely rod.

I'm hoping that circumstances allow me to compare the actions of the two rods side by side this coming weekend.

It was a pleasure to meet up with Paul ... and I thank him for passing custody of this rod over to me.

Well done Mal!
I'm looking forward to seeing it in action, although preferably not with a huge angry carp on the other end this time!
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.
