Marco Medway - help needed

Post by Nailbourne »

Some while ago, I bought a 12' Marco Medway rod off E-bay, and commented on it here.

The rod has obviously(?) been re-ringed in the past with a full set of Agatine-centred bridge rings, which seems odd for such a rod. I imagine it would have had, originally. High Bells Life rings. It's now been stripped down to the bare cane, but I don't want to replace the rings if they are not of the original type.

If any member has such a rod, I'd love to know the number and type of rings and, possibly, their IDs in mm.

Thanks in anticipation!

You might PM Haydn:

He might have used different coloured silk to the originals, which can be seen here:

I now have the 12 ft Marco Arun shown on the second lot of photos and very pleased I am with it , its sensitive enough to play 1 lb roach and has had the power to land a decent tench and also carp to 18 lb.
Its not a Medway but it is a 12 ft Marco rod and has 9 rings including the tip and butt rings.
The tip ring has a white porcelain liner.
The heights of the rings from the rod to the outer of the ring are as follows :
Tip 15 mm
2 16 mm
3+4 18 mm
5+6+7+8 20 mm
Butt 21 mm and sl larger

The whippings are black and the wine trim is sl darker than it looks on the photo

Thanks, everyone! It'll be High Bells rings, then.

I've got what I assume is an unrestored 'Medway'.
The tip ring looks like a white agate inside diameter 4.5mm.
The other rings are quite a fine wire cradle type. I'll try and upload a couple of pics.
The rings are a bit misshapen but I measured them as:
from the top down id: 1 - 5.7mm
2 - 5.7mm
3 - 5.7mm
4 - 5.7mm
5 - 6.2mm
6 - 6.4mm
7 - 6.5mm

Butt ring missing.

Sorry Nailbourne, I see I had a senior moment and read Medway as Arun. It's me age....

Oh, yes, CrayCane!! That looks just like mine, barring the rings - LOW Bells life. I think they're like hens' teeth these days - will have to check with Ted Oliver.

And you're another Kent member! Roll on.

My one needs a new tip section as it has a very pronounced set but it will have to wait in the queue of 'things to be done'.

The whippings by the way are dark blue. If you need the spacing let me know.
