Help please

Post by Bobthefloat »

My friends father in law got in touch with me when he found out I was using traditional tackle and said he had a few bits in the loft.
One item is this rod I can't quite make out the writing on it to see which model it is apparently it's 11ft 6in
He brought it 60 years ago with his paper round money and has kept it in immaculate condition any information would be very much appreciated.

To my eyes - it looks like "Stourdale" which I have not heard of before.

I think it says " This rod belongs to Jeremy Croxall, please return to it's rightful owner"
"Oh for want of rod and line I'd fish this stream serene, sublime".

:laugh1: It's a lovely rod isn't it I haven't found any evidence of a stourdale being made?
Hopefully someone can shed some light on it.

That's a new one on me too....very desirable with its whole cane butt and it looks as though the tip isn't too light....just imaging the taper along....a chub or barbel rod??

Another rod maker made a similar rod - called The Stour at 11ft 6 - but I am not sure who. Priory?

Any ideas Nobby?

I have never heard of this one either. There are some less well known Aspindales rods made for Salmon or Sea Trout fishing so it may be one of those. A full length view of the handle will sometimes confirm its intended use.
A nice looking rod though and as Nobby has pointed out it looks quite powerful.

Wal.
