At last, A Forty Fore

Post by Gurn »

To own a Constable Forty Fore has been a little quest of mine for about 3 years now. They do seem to be relatively rare rods that hardly ever seem to see out their duration on a certain site due to someone offering a high price to end the listing early. Well I'm pleased to say that my quest came to end today. A private sale, the vendor seemed pleased that it will be cherished and used again.
It will need a refurb and I am considering having it done professionally due to lack of spare time these days ( your recommendations for the job are welcome).
I'd appreciate views on my hunch that this is an earlier rod than examples I've seen previously. Note the shape of the cork and winding check, also the gold label instead of the usual blue/gold one. It certainly has the feel of a good rod...Can't wait to use it.

Well done Gurn, quest over.

Excellent, look lovely; especially the handle.

Excellent! You'll enjoy using it. The serial number certainly looks like an early one.

Well found, Gurn! Until recently I'd never seen a blue transfer on a Constable and presume they are later rods.

I wonder if Barney Gallop knows for sure? .... he knew Cliff.
