I feel like Columbo, here goes:

I am pretty sure the bloke in Norfolk is genuine. He sold another Oliver's rod a few weeks ago (a 15 footer, whole cane butt, middle, tip with a splice split cane at the end). That looked 100% genuine to me if not a bit unusual (Olly, I think that is the £200 rod you refer to - they are just very sought after because of Ted Oliver's reputation as a cane-make).

Anyhow, I sent him a question about this one and he thanked me and said the bloke in Bathgate had nicked his photo and he had reported him to ebay.

With regard to the rod itself - in Norfolk - it looks genuine (to my very limited knowledge) in terms of the transfer and cane but the handle does have a strange look and as does the whipping colour scheme/finish. Caveat empor I think is the expression but obviously enough people are satisfied as the bidding was nearing £500 when I last looked.

I also have now had a message back from the Bathgate seller saying he had tried to list his own rod as 'sell similar' and it had just picked up the first seller's photo and he couldn't upload a replacement from his mobile (hmmmm...I might have gone for that if it was a bag of loom bands but not a £400 Oliver's rod!).

If I was interested in said rod in Norfolk, at those kinds of prices and given all the above, I think I would be heading to Norfolk to have a waggle before I had a bid.

Ah, now posting a sale with eBay Mobile does indeed limit what you can do, I'm told.

Not sure it crops images though.......... :fingertap:

Certainly you can delete images on 'normal' eBay as a chap selling a 'double-ventilated aerial' has just done so. And you can certainly write your own text to say that the object for sale is not the one in the image.

Personally I leave both well alone looks to me like the general float rod which is quite a heavy wielding thing to hold for any length of time Ted certainly made better rods than this.

Is it odd that both sellers have made the same typo that the rod has a "hollow" rather than "whole cane butt?

No! The other chappy sold a "rod" - I have no idea what it was as the pictures are rubbish - for £200!!

Look at his selling total/feedback and view the item. Any ideas would be welcome!! He also wrote to the buyer yesterday!

NB: Picture has changed!!
