Eels onthe G.U.

Post by WildCarpFisher. »

I fished the canal at one time for eels many years ago in my youth. One night I arrived in very high winds, and cast my two baits across the water, sat back under the umbrella (nothing else available in those days) and dropped off to sleep. In the morning as the dawn came up I noticed my lines running in a strange angle. Both baited hooks had been in the trees opposite all night long, just were I had cast them in the dark!

I took some good eels from the canal up to nearly 4lb.

Got to say, I had a little giggle to myself on reading that...

:Hahaha:
Probably one of the reasons I don't go night fishing
There is no peace on earth like the peace of fishing in the early mornings

It was blowing a gale as mentioned, and after a days work I was knackered? Can anyone remember fishing before work in their youth? I never got tired in my teens and 20s. Now it's bed at 9pm with the hot drink and book.

Your in good company, I can remember reading a magazine article quite a few years ago by Tony Miles, he did the same thing fishing a small river, spent most of the night with his bait in a tree opposite.

A friend of mine has a similar thing happen while out in France. On returning from the end of session BBQ he cast 3 rod (in the dark) to what he thought was the opposite margin, he recalls all night long that he was getting line bites. Only at first light did he see that all 3 lines were high and dry on the willow at the other side!!! The tree’s swaying in the wind had caused the “line bite” :Hahaha: :Hahaha: :Hahaha:
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.
