Burton of Preston?

Post by Rutilus.Bobicus »

I've just bought a Burton of Preston split cane rod off eBay, but apart from make and length (12ft float) I know diddly squat else of the makers. Bearing in mind I've only paid 99p plus postage for the rod.
Can anyone shed some light on it for me?

A new one on me, can you add a link to the eBay sale so we can look at it?

Not heard of them before, probably a one man operation. Looks OK, at that price if it is usable, a bargain

Is it really 13 foot long as the seller stated?

A bargain for sure, although large whole cane match rod size those ferrules are worth a few bob alone!

Got to be worth a punt at that price, considering what some of the cane rods come out at.
I will give a review when I've received it and give it an outing. Just gotta find a nice centrepin to go with it.

Where does it say it's cane? It looks like hollow glass to me. Maybe a bargain at 99p but the P&P was OTT.

Not sure, hard to tell from the photo. Looks like either glass or whole cane. Although the tip section looks round rather than hexagonal. Unusual to find ferrules on a glass rod. My first one just pushed together, one section into another, my second was a spigot joint.

I think you will find it's a glass rod. Still might be ok though?

The rod bag looks like an Edgar Sealey with it's yellow popper stud.
