Homers No 61 Rod disaster, almost.

Post by Fredline »

I am 95% into sympathetically refurbishing a 4 piece Homers No 61 cane rod when I discovered a linear split in the female ferrule on the middle section. The normal procedure would be to change both male and female ferrules but I did not want to do this as the rod only needs a few more coats of varnish. Then a light bulb moment, a quick rummage through a box of old ferrules and I found a used female that fits a treat, really tight. I cut a small section, polished it and super glued it in place. It works a treat. I have to work on the colour a little but overall I am very pleased with the result.

If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

Nicely done, nothing more satisfying than affecting a repair from the spares draw. :Thumb:

A Great job John, well done! I can honestly say I could not have done better myself (my little joke) :surrender:

Hello Fredline,

Don't you find that Superglue gets brittle after several months? I tok Ted Oliver's advice and use Araldite.

I guess we all have our favourites.

Would be my idea, too. Superglue is very brittle. If it comes loose, use Epoxy instead. Apart of that: spot on! That's how it is done best! And from spares? Even better :Hat:

Good point. I only used Superglue because it was very tight. It probably would have stayed in position without any adhesive.
