Dating Rods by Ferrules

Post by Tonytoned »

Hello Everyone

Is it possible to "roughly" date un-named Cane or even Fibreglass rods by the material the ferrules are made from, i.e. Brass, Steel or Chrome etc. I would be talking 30's 40's and up to the 80's or even in between.
Your feedback would be much appreciated. I thank you for your time.

Yes but not to any degree of accuracy. Consulting makers catalogues or research on the internet is another approach.

Chromed ferrules are generally found on imported, post war era rods.

The quality of the ferrules gives a good indication of the overall quality of a rod and the actual style of ferrule can often give a good indication of the maker.
