In 1965 I had a young son, lived in two rooms in chalk farm road and no money. My only extravagance was a new Rapidex and a B.James Richard Walker Avon, bought from Field's! I don't recall seeing anyone with a guy outside the shop, but if I had you probably would have got at least a penny!Steve59 wrote:Funny enough I use to have my Guy outside either Fields tackle shop the greengrocers or army recruitment office all next to each other on Highgate road.
Perhaps the older ones of you gave me a penny or two back in the mid 1960's.

Always happy to have an excuse to bump this topic - it makes me smile every time I read it.
fwk88, frequent purveyor of fine rods, is offering the 12 foot split cane Fieldrover de Luxe.
Bit steep for me, but another snippet of history.

Found this add in a LAA membership handbook
There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.

"The number 777 is significant in various religious and political contexts."
(None of which I subscribe to!)
Surely we are not allowed to discuss such matters here.
Joke

If it were 666 I would give it to my little grandson, it would then have gone to an appropriate home, based on current behaviour

Just to update the thread regarding the Fieldrover Deluxe rod. I have now bought this from Barry. He believes it to be built on a Bob Southwell blank.
Just got some minor refurb work to do before trying it out. Really looking forward to using this on a nearby Tench lake.
All the best,
Nick

Aha! Another chance to bump my favourite topic.
That auction site has another Fields' rod "The Medway"
3 piece split cane, no length or description and can't make out a lot of detail from the pics.
