Loving that blue Ashby - unusual without being too "showy": may try it myself next time I do a rewhip.

It's looking very nice. I've always been a bit surprised that dark blue trimmed with straw wasn't more popular in the 50's and 60's. I've always thought the dark blue compliments the paler natural cane colours very well.

Just placed 3 small bands of cream on the butt ... it highlights the rubber nicely ... will post pics tomorrow.

Excellent can't wait to see how the colours turn out once they are varnished. Gonna be a nice one…

Sounds like something you'd overhear in a massage parlour :hahaha:
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

As a personal embellishment I've added a small section of a female mallard feather, which drifted into the cockpit of my little cruiser on the Ashby Canal, to the butt section in the first coat of varnish.

I'm practicing my handwriting, being tempted to sign the rod "AshbyCut".

Almost there !!! The butt and middle sections have had two thin coats of varnish, and the ferrule in the new tip section has now been pinned prior to whipping (straightness has been checked prior to pinning), thread sealing, and the same two coats to bring it to the same state as the other two sections. I'll then add such coats of varnish as are deemed necessary to the three sections at the same time. Before and after .....
